Overview - Transmission Fluid Circuit

1 - Plug/Plugs
- For the ATF check and fill hole -item 1-

2 - Plug
- 35 Nm
- Replace after removing
- For the transmission fluid inspection and fill hole
3 - Transmission Fluid Pump (MTF Pump)
- With seal welded on
- Must be removed for draining the transmission fluid (MTF).
- Replace the transmission fluid pump if the seal is damaged.
- Removing and installing. Refer to
→ Chapter "Transmission Fluid Pump, Removing and Installing".
4 - Bolt
- 3 Nm +90º
- Replace after removing
5 - Plug/Plugs

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit -SMN372500-
- Protective Eyewear
Removing
Note
- General repair instructions. Refer to
→ Chapter "Repair Information".
- Guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to
→ Chapter "Guidelines for Clean Working Conditions".
- Move vehicle onto a four-pillar workshop hoist or over a
work pit so that it is absolutely horizontal for the refilling.
- Remove the rear noise insulation. Refer to
→ Body Exterior; Rep. Gr.66; Noise Insulation; Noise Insulation,
Removing and Installing.
- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit
-SMN372500- underneath.
WARNING
Danger of eye injury.
Wear protective eyewear.
Caution
Risk of electrical corrosion.
- There must not be any transmission fluid (MTF) in
the connector area.
- Disconnect the connector -2-
only after the transmission fluid drains.
Note
When removing the oil pump, the transmission drains
abruptly.
- Remove the bolts -arrows- and
then remove the oil pump -1-.
- After draining the transmission fluid, disconnect the
connector -2-.

Caution
Risk of damaging the transmission.
Without any or with too little transmission fluid
inside the transmission:
- Do not start the engine.
- Do not tow the vehicle.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the
following:
Note
- Worn out manual transmission fluid (MTF) can stain the
transmission fluid filter housing.
- Clean debris off sealing surfaces.
- Fill the transmission fluid (MTF). Refer to
→ Chapter "Transmission Fluid, Draining and Filling".

D-pillar.
Removing
- Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment and
remove the ignition key
